This project we reimagined an open terrace into a fully functional seminar hall for corporate meetings, conferences, and presentations. The challenge was to strike a balance between minimalism and sophistication while responding to the client’s request for a subtle “New York vibe” without relying on exposed red brick.
Our design strategy was anchored in a carefully controlled palette and a masterful play of light. The design explored a restrained palette of greys and whites, with walls and flooring finished in muted grey tones, complemented by white furniture and ceiling elements. The lighting became the central design feature. The ceiling and the contemporary, shell-back chairs were kept a crisp white to create a clean visual contrast and enhance the sense of volume. The project extended beyond the seminar hall, with the addition of a balcony café space a thoughtfully partitioned area where professionals can unwind over coffee and informal conversations.
A key to the project's success was my use of detailed 3D simulations and isometric plans. This allowed us to walk the client through the entire spatial experience from seating capacity to the final aesthetic before construction began, ensuring complete alignment with their vision. The final execution is a testament to this meticulous planning, with the finished space mirroring our initial renders perfectly, much to the client's satisfaction.
These photographs personally captured from the launch day demonstrates the design integrity, where the execution closely matches the render simulations. The exposed grey brick walls, clean white ceiling, and consistent furniture selection hold true to the design intent. The lighting installation stands out as the highlight, bringing depth and dynamism while offering uniform illumination. Plants along the edges continue to break monotony, aligning with the renders and enhancing the ambiance.
This initial visualization captures the core of our design intent. The true focal point is the dynamic grid of linear lights overhead, designed to create a sense of energy and modernity, setting the tone for a forward-thinking conference space. These lights not only illuminate evenly but also introduce rhythm and geometry to the design. Strategic placement of potted plants softens the otherwise minimal look and adds warmth.
These renders showcase the central seminar hall. The palette of muted grey brick-textured walls and grey flooring establishes a subtle, minimalistic base. White chairs with black legs form a sharp contrast, maintaining visual clarity.
My design process began with meticulous spatial planning. The isometric simulation illustrates the spatial planning in detail. It demonstrates the capacity, circulation, and zoning of the hall, including the adjoining café and service areas. This visualization helped the client understand functional efficiency and design integration, ensuring alignment before execution.
A successful event space requires more than just a main hall. We designed this attached balcony as a dedicated breakout café, providing a vital area for informal conversations and coffee breaks. The balcony café extends the seminar experience into an informal leisure zone. Cane chairs paired with round tables add an Asian-modern softness against terrazzo flooring. The white perforated ceiling with black ceiling fans ensures ventilation and visual interest, while the planter-lined edge enhances privacy and greenery. This semi-open breakout space fosters casual discussions and social interactions among professionals.
